Because sometimes things are better than the sum of their already delicious parts.

cheesecake swirl brownies

brownie batter

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into cubes

3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2/3 cup all-purpose flour

cheesecake batter

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/3 cup sugar

1 egg yolk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray an 8 or 9-inch square pan liberally with nonstick spray. Set aside.
  2. Make brownie batter. Melt together butter and chocolate. I microwaved in two 30-second bursts, and stirred until smooth, but feel free to go double boiler method if that's your thing. Whisk in sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Gently fold in flour until no streaks remain. Spread into prepared pan.
  3. Make cheesecake batter. In a medium bowl, whisk together cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth. Dollop over brownie batter, and use a butter knife to swirl into a marbled pattern. Sprinkle chocolate chips over top.
  4. Bake for 32 to 38 minutes, or until edges are slightly puffed and just beginning to look golden. Chill completely before slicing. Store in the refrigerator.
